“She’s content to embrace the mystic side of life, even if it arrives via DHL and wrapped in tissue paper,” read Ashish’s show notes, which accompanied a collection that embraced both the Eastern and Western world.
Merging 90s grunge, Acid House and Ashish Gupta’s Indian homeland, his ‘Bollywouldn’t’ collection presented a humorous conflict of commercialism and spiritual freedom – the Ashish girl likes to meditate, but also loves to shop. Rugged tie-dye jumpers and flashy sequin dresses worn with rainbow sole boots and elaborate jewellery reflected this contradicting fashion message, whilst one dress quite literally gave two fingers to those who criticise the haters. You tell ‘em Ashish!
