Animal rights group PETA chose luxury goods brand Hermés as their latest target, descending on the opening of the ‘Hermés Leather Forever’ exhibition opening in London on Tuesday.
Known for their somewhat extreme campaigning methods, such as hijacking high-profile runway shows, three models representing PETA appeared outside the Royal Academy of Arts holding signs which read: “Hermés, Bag Cruelty: Ditch Leather”.
PETA argue that the leather industry is not only cruel to animals, but toxic to the environment because of the chemicals used to treat the skins, whilst many luxury brands argue that the material is a natural resource which can in fact be used ethically.
