Kate Middleton covers Marie Claire South Africa… or does she?

We would hazard a guess that Kate Middleton is every editor-in-chief’s dream cover star. In fact we brought the news to you that Alexandra Shulman, Vogue UK’s Editor-in-Chief would love nothing more than to see the Duchess on the cover. Shulman explained that Vogue had approached the Duchess regarding a cover but the offer as yet has not been accepted.

So what do you do when there’s no sign of that guaranteed sell-out cover happening? Fake it of course! Well, at least that’s what Marie Claire South Africa did. Photoshopping the Duchess’ head and hands onto a model wearing a design by local designer Clive Rundle.

The, erm, questionable cover gives readers a hint (as if we couldn’t tell already) that this is not in fact the Duchess of Cambridge: A cover line that reads ‘Fashion’s royal icon wears SA’s best local designers*’. That nifty little asterix directs us to a line at the bottom that reads ‘*of course she doesn’t. But she should’…thank goodness for that or we might just have been fooled…!

The magazine has said that “the cover is a hyper-real illustration of Kate, meant to be a fan art tribute” but do you think this counts as fan-art or just plain fakery?
