Is Lady Gaga the biggest Alexander McQueen fan in the world? This week she paid £85,250 for an ivory silk gown by the brand at an auction hosted by Daphne Guinness in London.
The global superstar bid way over the estimated £15,000-£20,000 for the gown, which Guinness wore during a photoshoot for Harper’s Bazaar earlier this year. Gaga’s purchase beat the previous record for a McQueen gown, with a black velvet and bugle beaded evening gown from autumn/winter 2007 fetching £78,000 in November 2011.
Also sold at Daphne’s auction at Christie’s were items from Guinness’ own wardrobe, including pieces from Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Prada. The auction raised £476,800 with all of the proceeds going to The Isabella Blow Foundation.
