Swedish outdoor clothing and equipment brand Fjӓllrӓven has released a new version of the classic 1978 Kånken bag with eyecatching patterned webbing
The new release is to celebrate the official classification of the Kånken as a piece of art by Svensk Form, the Swedish Society of Arts and Crafts. The bag was originally designed as a school bag but its popularity extends far beyond school children and over three million bags have been sold.
Svensk Form’s Opinion Committee said: “All in all, Kånken has a distinct personal touch in design and a distinctive form identity. In view of these circumstances, we find that Kånken has such a degree of originality that it appears as its own intellectual creation. We therefore consider that Kånken should enjoy copyright protection as an applied art piece. Kånken is one of the world’s best-selling rucksacks. And it has become a symbol of Swedish style and durable design both at home and abroad.”
The new limited edition bags including the Kånken and Kånken Mini will feature patterned webbing straps in stripes, checks, graphic patterns, and colour blocking designs. All the original design features of the bag such as large main compartment, multiway handles, waterproof and hardwearing Vinylon F fabric, and reflective logo remain.
The Kånken and Kånken Mini bags are available from fjallraven.co.uk priced at £75 and £65 respectively.
