Selfridges London opened a new Californian-style rooftop bar and restaurant today – the Roof Deck Restaurant & Bar.
The restaurant was developed in collaboration with the Des McDonald restaurant group, which also operates the Holborn Dining Room, the Q Grill in Camden, and the Vintage Salt fish and chips group.
Created by executive chef Steve Tonkin (previously at the Dean Street Townhouse and the Soho House Group) with head chef Baran Baltac (ex senior sous chef at The Ivy), the menu is focused around fresh and healthy salads, grains, fish, and seafood with a Latin influence. It offers a range of starters such as Almond & nigella seed hummus with flat bread and seasonal vegetables, and tuna ceviche with kohlrabi, avocado, cilantro, and bonito flakes. Main course dishes include charred monkfish with scallops & bacon, and summer vegetable freekeh with habanero dressing.
Executive pastry chef Siobhan Ambrose is in charge of deserts, which include lime and coconut meringue pie, and avocado and pistachio ice cream sandwich.
Cocktails on offer at the bar include the Green Cucumber and Chilli Margarita and a Watermelon Martini. Bar snacks such as San Francisco sourdough, smoked eggplant dip will also be on the menu.
The dining space is styled with a timber boardwalk, tropical plants, and low wicker lighting, and will act as an exhibition space with artwork from six contemporary photographers decorating the walls. The outdoor terrace bar has a separate entrance and a retractable roof, making it adaptable for all types of British weather. Terraced seating, sanded parquet flooring and a cabana with hanging drapes and fairy lights add to the beachy California vibes, all with stunning views of the London skyline.
The Roof Deck Restaurant and Bar is open from 11am – 11pm Monday to Saturday and 12 – 6pm on Sundays.
