Founded by Judith Cutting in 2016, Guinea London is a luxury women’s clothing brand with a distinctly British feel, and a mission to make sure that every style is always designed and cut to flatter.
Feeling inspired to make a change following her successful 30 year career in Financial Services, outsourcing, Judith’s interest in textiles, designs and fashion lead her to launch the company as a way to empower women to always look and feel their most fabulous.
With understated elegance very much at the forefront of each design, Guinea London aim to create effortlessly stylish clothing that combines both creativity and a strong sense of British style. The inspiration for the brand and the essence of its values of luxury and quality is epitomised by its namesake, the gold guinea coin, the traditional British currency of luxury goods.
We caught up with Judith Cutting for the latest edition of our ‘My London’ interview series.
Favourite neighbourhood:
The areas around Sloane Square and the Kings Road. I absolutely love the village atmosphere and the variety of shops there cover just about everything I really need.
Favourite place for brunch:
I adore The Botanist in Sloane Square. At weekends they do a fabulous ‘Bottomless Brunch’ menu with British sourced meats – it’s simply the best!
Best coffee in London:
I’ve got to confess, I am not a coffee drinker. I do enjoy a lemon and ginger herbal tea from Cote Brasserie in Sloane Square though! It works whether you want something refreshing or warming, so perfect all year round.
Favourite gallery or museum:
Number one for me is the National Portrait Gallery. I am fascinated by faces both in paintings and photographs. The more lines on the face the better, it brings out the character and truth about the sitter.
Tell us a secret:
I’ve just flunked my new diet! I only began it on Monday, but failed spectacularly on Wednesday night… as they say though: “tomorrow is another day”.
Favourite place to shop:
Harrods perfumery department! It is the exact opposite of light and airy, as they have no windows so it feels like a decadent cocoon full of hidden pleasures.
Favourite place to find inspiration:
On the street – I love to sit and watch the world go by. To see what people are wearing, how they are wearing it and essentially what works and doesn’t work is a constant source of inspiration for me.
Best London destination for a date:
To start the date off on the right note, I would definitely suggest Claridges’ Bar. The service is fantastic and discreet, and the cocktails are to die for! Perhaps then dinner at Daphne’s, again it is discreet, but just oozes comfort and of course delicious food.
Favourite park:
I think it has to be Hyde Park. I have a great love of horses, and I love that the old tradition of riding is kept alive on Rotten Row. So even if I am scooting off to a meeting, the joy of seeing a horse come trotting by never fails to brighten my day.
Favourite food market:
Borough Market is fascinating. I love to see all the different produce from around the world even if don’t know what to do with most of it! The vegetables and fruit are just a riot of colour.
Your sanctuary in the city:
Definitely Harrods perfumery hall, as I said before is feels like the most fabulous cocoon and I just love that you are so enclosed can forget the world outside.
What inspires you?
Kindness – it is totally in the gift of all of us and free. It costs nothing to be friendly and polite, you never know what kind of day the other person is having, and I really appreciate this in others as well as trying to practice what I preach.
This season I’m loving…
Dresses! I am so delighted they are in fashion again, with so much variety and choice around. We’ve seen our new collection of dresses fly out and we are now excited to get all the new AW styles in as soon as possible.
