London Fashion Week: Burberry Autumn/Winter 2012

Burberry may be an old British label, but their autumn/winter 2012 collection proved that they still know how to do young, hip and cool.

Entitled ‘Town and Field’, the collection had all of those country details you’d expect – flat caps, leather riding gloves and tweed jackets – but the crux however was the quirky add-ons, from bow waist belts to owl embellished tops to duck head umbrellas. Fun seemed to be central to the collection, as flirty peplum skirts and bold stripes were incorporated to give classics such as the Burberry trench a youthful twist.

But as always with Burberry shows, half of the focus is on the clothes whilst the other half is on the attendees, and this season the front row didn’t disappoint. The likes of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Eddie Redmayne, Will.I.Am, Clemence Posey, Kate Bosworth, Alexa Chung, Samantha Cameron, Anna Wintour and Mario Testino all took seats on the front row, proving Burberry to be one of London Fashion Week’s most popular tickets. They also win the award for the loudest show music, as tunes from Rae Morris, Marina & the Diamonds and Joan Armatrading vibrated through the venue, creating and intense and exciting atmosphere.

Beyond the celebrities and the designs, the luxury British label kept onlookers entertained with a dramatic finale, showering the outside of the Kensington Gardens show space with fake rain, whilst gold glitter rain fell on the inside, creating the perfect opportunity them to whip out some designer umbrellas. Creative and commercial!
