Clarks Originals launches ‘Clarks in Tokyo’ collection

Clarks Originals pays tribute to the origins of Tokyo’s streetwear culture by exploring the hidden backstreets of Harajuku.

To honour Ura-Harajuku, one of the most iconic fashion districts in Shibuya, Clarks has produced a Tokyo documentary, directed by Taichi Kimura. The documentary delves into the history of the area, featuring voices from writers, independent store directors, and Urahara enthusiasts. It highlights the pivotal role Clarks and its signature designs have played in shaping the scene, including the glove-like Wallabee, the 1950s-born Desert Boot, and the distinctively central-seamed Desert Trek.

In addition to the documentary, Clarks has released a trio of lookbooks. These celebrate both a generation of elders and the new wave of subcultural influencers, showcasing Clarks’ timeless staples and the limited-edition Harajuku pack Wallabees. These exclusive Wallabees are enhanced with details inspired by Tokyo’s youth culture: beaded laces, leopard-print pony hair, and fob decorations, bringing a fresh twist to classic designs. The collection also features platform soles, camo-canvas panels with traditional moccasin-style stitching, and snake or crocodile-effect leathers.

The documentary is available to view on the @ClarksOriginals Instagram.
