We’re all too familiar with the effects the colder months can have on our skin. How to rectify, or better still, prevent those problems is a mission myself and many other women are faced with year after year.
However, I (“I” meaning award-winning dermatologist Dr. Perricone.) think I may have finally cracked it.
The claims:
Perricone MD’s Chia Serum claims to “deliver healthy-looking skin and a visibly vibrant, glowing complexion” by bringing the ancient anti-aging secret of Chia oil to the modern world”. It also promises to protect against moisture loss and oxidative damage, providing the skin with “superior hydration” whilst being fast-absorbing and non-greasy.
The Science
Chia seeds are considered one of richest vegetable sources of omega 3 fatty acids. This particular formula combines chia oil with five fat-soluble nutrients and vitamins–vitamins E, A, C ester, pro-vitamin B5, and Co Enzyme Q10.
The Verdict:
After a week of using Chia serum twice daily I was glowing – and I was receiving positive comments after just a few days. I suffer from dry skin in a few isolated areas, have a slightly oily t-zone and the rest of my skin is relatively ‘normal’. I used 1-3 drops directly onto cleansed and toned skin, but you use Chia Serum as a finishing step after makeup or mix the product with your usual moisturiser – I’d recommend this to anyone with particularly oily skin.
On drier patches, it instantly hydrated and left the rest of my skin feeling extremely soft. The only negative point to make about this product is that you do need to stick to a good cleansing routine as the extra oil could clog pores if used repeatedly and left to build up. That said, add it to your existing skincare regime and you shouldn’t have a problem.
Now I’m a journalist, not a scientist or historian, so whilst I’m not sure if the product really had me replicating the practices of the ancients ,what I can say is that old or new…
