As 6 o’clock on Sunday struck, the celebs began piling out of their chaffeur-driven cars and onto the red carpet outside London’s Royal Opera House. The small spout of rain didn’t deter the stars from showing off their gorgeous gowns to the crowds. Some looked good, some looked bad and some (Tracy Emin) just looked a little bit strange. Here’s our pick of the best…
Nominated for her role in The Kids are Alright, Julianne Moore looked glamorous in blue velvet, but more so because of her designer arm candy – none other than Mr Tom Ford. Since he was her plus one to the event, she couldn’t not wear one of his creations And so her fabulous frock came courtesy of one of the most coveted designers in the world. Lucky thing.
Emma Watson wowed the crowd in a delicate nude maxi dress covered in fairytale lace, styled with some gold jewellery. The Valentino gown’s feminine asymmetric frill was the perfect contrast to her pixie crop. The 20-year-old arrived with the rest of the Harry Potter cast to accept the award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema – well deserved we say!
The award for unexpected guest of the night went to American actress Jessica Alba, who looked divine in floor length Versace. The striking blue colour complimented her skin tone perfectly, as did her red lipstick and black lined eyes. A beaded necklace and shining silver clutch finished off the ensemble perfectly. We’re sure her shoes did too, but her draped gown sadly kept them hidden.
What a transformation for Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding. Clubwear fanatic and the people’s party girl channelled her inner siren for the film awards, opting for a red gown by Georges Chakra, with a sheer and sequinned bust. Sticking with the red theme she matched her lips and heels to her floor length dress, complete with front split to show off her famous pins.
Thandie Newton’s gorgeous Monique Lhullier gown suffered a red carpet injury after splashes of rain caused major marks on the bottom of her dress. She still managed to look perfectly calm in the bold pink rose print number, going for minimal dark jewellery and make-up.
