Actor and musician Daniel Donskoy starts the new year on a major high, following the runaway success of his debut single, 24 and its follow up Robbed Me – an electronic infused, R&B bop inspired by the vintage sound of the late 90’s.

Serving as the second of six releases, Robbed Me brings us closer to the core of Daniel’s emotional world – as the multi-talented recording artist lays bare his deep routed wounds and insecurities. “I know I’m not alone with that feeling, so when I sing about it I know people will find themselves within the story.” Donskoy says of the track. “For me it is the most fulfilling thing to know that someone hearing my song might feel for a second like they aren’t alone, because the loneliness that comes out of depression and self-doubt is a pretty shitty thing.”
Best-known for his roles in HBO’s Strike Back, Detectorists and the world renowned Netflix series The Crown, Daniel Donskoy is a fully independent artist with a lifelong passion for performing, composing and writing music. With roots in Moscow, Berlin, Tel Aviv and London Donskoy has worked tirelessly to become a household name in several countries, amassing a loyal following on social media.
We caught up with Daniel for the latest in our ‘My London’ interview series.
Favourite Neighbourhood:
I’ve lived in so many different areas of London and every single one of them had it’s beauty. From Acton, Fulham, Dalston, southwark and Homerton – I’ve felt at home in many places. At the moment I’m looking for a new place and I think I’ll stick to Homerton.
Favourite place for brunch:
El Ganso on Broadway Market on a Sunday. It’s cozy, food is more then solid and after you’re stuffed, you just go for a walk by the canal – best Sunday chill!
Best coffee in London:
I’d say Monmouth in Borough Market. You order, wait for the coffee take it with you and wander through the market. It’s my favourite for the taste and the atmosphere.
Favourite gallery or museum:
The Saatchi Gallery. The mix of modern Art, Classics with quite experimental exhibitions makes this my favourite spot. Overtime I go I end up buying posters. In my kitchen I’ve three of Russian Prison Tattoo Art – those guys now always keep me company.
Tell us a secret:
When I was a student in London, and absolutely broke but wanted fresh fruit and veg, I’d go to the self checkout till and bill everything as onions – that was the only way to afford a Mango or nice apples without actually stealing!
Favourite place to shop:
I’m really one for a good mixture. Charity shop and flea markets and a quick tour around Carnaby Street and you’re sorted for urban meets chic.
Favourite place to find inspiration:
I mainly need nature to find inspiration so I just jump on a train out to the Cotswolds every now and then – it calms me down and gives me space to think and create.
Best London destination for a date:
For me personally, if it’s the first date then I want to see the other persons vibe. So I’d normally go to a gig or something where you can really get the other persons energy. I can’t stand first dates in restaurants. But if its a restaurant date or not the first, I’d go for a Russian restaurant, Mari Vanna, you’ll be usr etc hare food and get drunk – you’ll know if you wanna have another date after being there.
Favourite park:
I’ve been living around Victoria Park for quite some time so I’m biassed. But honestly I could spend days on end just hanging around there.
Favourite food market:
It’s a tough choice between Borough Market and Broadway Market… but I think I’ll go with Borough Market as tends to be hard to enjoy Saturdays on Broadway Market whilst you fight your way through the hipsters.
Your sanctuary in the city:
Hopefully I’ll find a new place soon as my sanctuary is always my home. The place that gives me energy and security. So if anyone knows of a 1 bed flat around Homerton, with a little garden let me know!
What inspires you?
Music is my main source of inspiration in life. I often just download an album and walk the streets of the city feeling like I’m in a movie and the album is the theme song. This way you can paint life, and the people in the exact mood you want them, just by adding the music you want to hear.
This season I’m loving:
Winter is the season to combine styles. I’m an absolute hoodie person, and love to mix them with long trench coats. At the moment my favourite brand is Y3 – perfect combination of classic and urban.
