British actress, Jessica Ellerby, will reprise her role as the iconic Queen Elizabeth in the second series of Pennyworth, available on StarzPlay now. Set in an alternate reality in 1960s London, the series follows Bruce Wayne’s butler ‘Alfred Pennyworth’, a former British SAS soldier.
Jessica is best known prior for her regular role as ‘Jane’ in Netflix hit Lovesick opposite Johnny Flynn. Further screen highlights include Universal’s Get Him To The Greek, Jonny Owen’s Svengali, Sky One’s Living The Dream and the BBC’s In The Club.
Aside from acting, Ellerby has written, directed, produced and starred in her first short; a comedy titled The Hungry Games for which she won the Honourable Mention at One-Reeler short film competition in LA. The short is a female-led, satirical social observational comedy, focusing on the modern day obsessions and pressures surrounding women and image.
We caught up with Jessica Ellerby for the latest in our ‘My London’ interview series.
Favourite neighbourhood:
My own. But if I’m mooching it’d have to be East London – it’s not somewhere I know crazy well, so there’s always a little pocket of discovery for me.
Favourite place for brunch:
Megan’s Cafe, with a massive group of friends please.
Best coffee in London:
Locally; Boys’N’Berry on Fulham Road or Local Hero, but in town (remember town?!) Monmouth.
Favourite gallery or museum:
The National Portrait Gallery.
Tell us a secret:
I hate boiled eggs.
Favourite place to shop:
I love rummaging in a charity shop and finding a gem.
Favourite place to find inspiration:
Visiting a part of the city I’ve never been to before. But during lockdown a run along the river.
Best London destination for a date:
Around Christmas one year my husband Nick took me to Beyond Retro to find terrible Christmas jumpers, ice skating at Hyde Park and afternoon tea at Fortnum and Mason. That was the best date I’ve ever been on – fun, silly, glutinous.
Favourite park:
Richmond Park – there’s deer for goodness sake!
Favourite food market:
Your sanctuary in the city:
A yoga studio, any yoga studio.
What inspires you?
Nature, people watching and indie films.

The hope for brighter days..
