Yuriko started her vintage clothing fashion brand Weekend Doll, as fashion of this era has always fascinated her. Hers is a unique retro-style clothing store that aims to meet the desires of the women of this century to dress up fashionably. She added a touch of modernity to vintage fashion trends of the 30s, 40s and 50s to come up with her clothing line. Her dresses are inspired by the stunning silhouettes, fabrics and craftsmanship of this era. What began as a ‘small boutique business’ is now a full-fledged fashion clothing store.
We caught up with Yuriko for the latest in our ‘My London’ interview series.
Favourite neighbourhood:
Shoreditch.
Favourite place for brunch:
Cut the mustard. The homemade sourdough bread and baked beans are amazing! It’s in a residential area, so it’s a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.
Best coffee in London:
BFI Southbank. There’re large sofas and armchairs, the perfect place to get inspiration and spend Sunday afternoon.
Favourite gallery or museum:
The V&A is my favourite museum in London, I love the architecture and they always have a great exhibition on. I can easily spend all day in there.
Favourite building:
Liberty – each floor is quite small, so you feel like you visited a big castle rather than visiting department store. I love the outside of the building also.
Favourite place to shop:
Weekend Doll of course!
Favourite place to find inspiration:
Liberty – especially their amazing selection of fabrics and wallpaper collection.
Best London destination for a date:
South Bank. There is always something happening on the South Bank, especially now it is summer.
Favourite park:
Battersea park. There is a tropical garden which has amazing colours and so many exotic plants and there is a little cute pedal boating lake.
Favourite food market:
Spitalfields market – it’s not meant to be a food market, however the food stores are getting amazing and you can get exotic food from all over the place. One of my favourite markets in London.
Your sanctuary in the city:
Spitalfields.
What inspires you?
Golden Hollywood films.
This season I’m loving:
I love all seasons and I like changing outfits for the different weather.
