British performance brand ThruDark has introduced the Oryon range, a new hot climate system designed to balance protection, breathability and durability. The collection focuses on lightweight layering, while also prioritising sun protection and comfort.
Built for Heat and Exposure
Hot weather environments create clear challenges. Prolonged sun exposure increases the risk of overheating, dehydration and UV damage. Therefore, technical clothing must deliver both coverage and airflow.
The Oryon range addresses this balance directly. It protects against the sun while allowing heat to escape. As a result, it works across a range of conditions, from desert terrain to everyday summer wear.
Fabric-Led Performance
At the core of the collection sits ThruDark’s in-house DarkMatr™ fabric. This material provides stretch, manages moisture and improves durability. Crucially, it also delivers UPF 50 protection, blocking up to 98% of harmful UV rays.
In addition, the range uses established performance textiles. Pertex® Equilibrium adds lightweight water and wind resistance to the Windguard jacket. Meanwhile, Polartec® Delta™ increases breathability in T-shirts and helps regulate body temperature in high heat.
Designed for Practical Use
Function drives the design throughout the range. Articulated seams improve movement, while angled pockets allow easier access during activity. At the same time, ventilation panels release excess heat without reducing coverage.
The shirt also features an extendable collar. This addition increases protection for the back of the neck, which is often exposed to direct sunlight.
Tested in Extreme Conditions
ThruDark’s co-founders, both former UK Special Forces operators, shaped the development of the range. Their experience working in high-temperature environments informs each design choice.
In addition, explorer and ThruDark ambassador Aldo Kane tested the collection in demanding conditions. He has worked in locations across Southeast Asia and Central Africa. As he notes, reliable and lightweight clothing plays a key role in maintaining performance in extreme environments.
