Gizzi Erskine and friends join i-D and luxury tequila, Don Julio, for ‘La Cantina Primavera’
Last Wednesday (27/5/15) London’s finest, including jewellery designer Dominic Jones, DJ and Producer Mark Ronson with his wife Josephine De La Baum and Millie Mackintosh, joined chef and food writer Gizzi Erskine for an exclusive evening of food and drink.
Hosted by i-D and Mexico’s original luxury tequila Don Julio, ‘La Cantina Primavera’ took place at Kachette in East London. The night was inspired by Don Julio’s creator, Don Julio Gonzales, who re-imagined what was once a farmer’s drink as a luxury spirit – ‘La Cantina Primavera’ was a celebration of fresh thinking and new beginnings.
Don Julio is recognised by those who know their tequila as the ultimate in luxury, a signifier of taste, individuality and style. Now Mexico’s best-selling luxury tequila brand, its portfolio includes six unique tequilas each renowned for its special flavour profile.
Gizzi, who was inspired by recent visits to Mexico and her love of the country’s cuisine, curated a bespoke menu for the exclusive event. The menu included authentic and contemporary Mexican dishes, including delicious sea bass ceviche served with yazu and cumquat, together with 10-hour chipotle short rib quesadillas, and was catered by East London favourite Breddos Tacos.
Don Julio’s Brand Ambassador, Deano Moncrieffe, immersed the lucky guests in an unexpected tequila tasting experience. Cocktails served at the event included La Primavera, Don Julio Los Altos Margarita, Don Julio Anejo Old Fashioned and the Paper Heart.

The whole idea of celebrating fresh and original ways to enjoy food and drink is so me – I couldn’t wait to work on a menu to match these amazing tequila cocktails. Tonight we are showcasing a truly unexpected side to Mexican food and tequila and putting them in the spotlight.”
