Shop East: The Best Independent Stores in East London

East London has long been one of the most exciting places to shop in the capital. Its mix of cult independents, cult-following concept stores, and ever-rotating pop-ups makes it unlike anywhere else in the city. Furthermore, many of its best shops have become destination visits in their own right — drawing visitors from across London and beyond. Here is our updated guide to the best shopping spots in East London for 2026.

The Best Shopping in East London

1. Goodhood — Hanbury Street, Shoreditch

Founded in 2007, Goodhood is one of East London’s most respected multi-brand retailers. In 2024, the store closed its long-standing Curtain Road home and relocated to a new 5,500 sq ft flagship on Hanbury Street, just off Brick Lane — its biggest and best space yet. The new store stocks over 200 brands across menswear, womenswear, lifestyle, beauty, and homeware. Consequently, it offers one of the most complete curated edits in the city. Japanese independents are particularly well represented, alongside names like Aries, Brain Dead, Ganni, Norse Projects, Our Legacy, and Stüssy. The store also carries Goodhood’s own label, Goods by Goodhood, and features a rotating community events and brand takeover programme. In short, if you care about independent retail and thoughtful curation, this is essential.

2. House of Hackney — Shoreditch High Street

House of Hackney is the B Corp interiors design house inspiring people to protect our common home by bringing the beauty of Nature into theirs. Known for their iconic wallpaper, fabric, home accessories and award winning paint, each product is designed with purpose, made with love and built to last. The distinctive, unparalleled collections are a discerning choice for interior designers, architects and consumers around the world.

Founded by Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle in 2011, House of Hackney is a restoration project rooted in Nature, Craft, Community and Awe! The design house is evolving from a B Corp “sustainable” brand to a regenerative one. This means going beyond simply sustaining and instead, actively making things better. With Mother Nature & Future Generations sitting on their board of directors, their vision is to reimagine business as a living system that restores the Earth, sparks creativity, and protects the wellbeing of future generations.

3. Rachel Entwistle Jewellery — Club Row, Shoreditch

Rachel Entwistle is one of East London’s most celebrated independent jewellers. Her collections draw on history, anthropology, and mythology, exploring the deeply personal relationship we have with the pieces we wear. Customers have included FKA Twigs, Florence Welch, and Keira Knightley. The studio and shop on Club Row is where the jewellery is designed and made — in-house jewellers craft each piece on site, and the store carries both the full collection and occasional one-off pieces. All jewellery is made from certified 100% recycled gold and silver, reflecting a genuine commitment to ethical craft. Moreover, the store won the Time Out Love London Award for Best Store in Shoreditch and Hoxton.

4. LN-CC — Shacklewell Lane, Dalston

LN-CC — the Late Night Chameleon Café — opened in 2010 and quickly became one of the most talked-about retail spaces in the world. After a period of pandemic-induced closure, it reopened in March 2024 with a complete redesign by long-term collaborator and artist Gary Card. The result is a multi-room concept store that feels more like an art installation than a shop. Each room has its own identity and colour palette, housing a precisely curated mix of avant-garde fashion, books, music, and art. Labels include The Row, Gucci, Phoebe Philo, Martine Rose, Yohji Yamamoto, Rick Owens, and a growing roster of emerging talent. Furthermore, the basement club space has been transformed into L8TE, a versatile events venue that hosts brand activations, parties, and dinners. Now in its 15th year, LN-CC remains one of London’s most singular destinations.

5. Luna & Curious — Calvert Avenue, Shoreditch

Luna & Curious has been a fixture on Calvert Avenue since 2010, just off the beautiful Arnold Circus. Run by three creative designers — Polly George, Kaoru Parry, and Rheanna Lingham — it describes itself as a miniature department store, and the description fits. The shop stocks womenswear, childrenswear, homeware, jewellery, stationery, and gifts, with a strong focus on British-made goods and local makers. Additionally, the three founders stock their own label work alongside a carefully chosen selection from other independent designers. It is one of the most genuinely warm and characterful shops in East London, and the setting on Calvert Avenue — part of Britain’s first social housing estate — adds to its charm.

6. Nelly Duff — Columbia Road, Shoreditch

Opened in 2006, Nelly Duff has grown into one of East London’s most respected galleries for street, tattoo, and graphic art. Situated on the much-loved Columbia Road, it supports local artists while also exhibiting original work by emerging international names. The name itself is a clue to its roots: ‘Nelly Duff’ is Cockney rhyming slang for ‘life’. Whether you’re looking to buy original art or simply want to browse, a visit to Nelly Duff is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend an hour on Columbia Road — especially on a Sunday morning during the flower market.

7. Donlon Books — Broadway Market, Hackney

Donlon Books on Broadway Market is the kind of independent bookshop that other independent bookshops aspire to be. Its hand-picked titles are deliberately hard to find, spanning music, art, photography, philosophy, esoterica, and more. As a result, it draws a loyal following of collectors, designers, and curious browsers who know that a visit rarely ends empty-handed. Keep an eye on its events programme — regular book readings and signings make it a genuinely social as well as a retail destination on a Saturday afternoon.

8. Labour and Wait — Redchurch Street, Shoreditch

Labour and Wait is the shop most responsible for making utilitarian homeware covetable. On Redchurch Street in Shoreditch, it stocks a beautifully edited range of functional household goods — enamel mugs and kettles, wooden brushes, aprons, and classic workwear clothing like Breton tops, chore jackets, and smocks. The ethos is simple: buy things that work well, last a long time, and look good while doing it. Consequently, Labour and Wait has become one of the most influential shops in East London, copied by many but rarely matched.

9. L.F. Markey — Dalston Lane, Dalston

L.F. Markey is the womenswear brand for anyone who loves utility done beautifully. Founded by Louise Markey — a Central Saint Martins graduate who also worked at Burberry — the brand takes its cues from bleus de travail and artist’s smocks. Boilersuits, chore jackets, dungarees, work trousers, and jeans are the signatures. However, the collection also includes effortless dresses, knits, and separates that have made Louise Markey a favourite among the fashion crowd and makers alike. The Dalston Lane store is bright, colourful, and welcoming — the perfect place to experience the full range in person.

A note on AIDA Shoreditch: The much-loved AIDA boutique on Shoreditch High Street permanently closed in January 2026 after 14 years of trading. Founded by sisters Helena, Michele, Kris, and Daniella Chow and named after their grandmother, it was one of East London’s finest concept stores. It will be greatly missed.
