What do you wear to an awards ceremony that celebrates great fashion and brilliant styling? We’re not sure, but the celebs who graced the red carpet at last nights Elle Style Awards gave us a few ideas.
The event, held in Mayfair, London was as star-studded as expected, with fashionistas from all over the globe jetting in to brush shoulders with some of the biggest names in the industry.
Alexa Chung flew in from LA to present the ceremony, but stuck to her signature style in a cotton Yves Saint Laurent crop top and skirt combo. Paired with black suede platforms, vintage jewellery and an over-sized clutch, she proved she’s still the original Alex we all know and love.
Some people may no know who she is (eherm, Vivienne Westwood), but that didn’t stop Emma Watson receiving the coveted award of Style Icon at last night’s ceremony. She returned to the nude colour of her BAFTAs dress from the night before, this time going for cut out Hakaan mini dress, completed with slick down hair, bold eyebrows and flesh coloured heels.
Blake Lively, who picked up the award for Best TV Star for her Gossip Girl role, looked radiant in a bold blue Emilio Pucci dress. She paired her halter neck number with tribal style stacked bangles and purple Louboutins. An interesting choice of colours, which she managed pull off effortlessly.
Jameela Jamil looked every inch the style queen in a floral print Hussein Chalayan dress and lace-up heels, completed with a thin cigarette clutch. The fashion new comer played it safe with her trademark unkempt hair, but changed her signature red lips to pink for the night.
Everyone’s favourite northerner Cheryl Cole was glowing (literally) when she picked up the award for Best Music – well deserved after her recent string of number one singles and top selling album. She showed off sufficient cleavage and side-boob in a McQueen maxi dress, going for old school glamour with her red lips, a box clutch and gold jewellery.
Wide-eyed singer and mum-of-two Sophie Ellis-Bextor looked dreamy in a pale pink vintage dress and triple strap heels. Her big gold handbag, also vintage, went against the night’s trend of tiny clutches, and even featured scribblings of her loves and hates. Top marks for individuality.
