The British Fashion Council yesterday announced its plans for a digital London Fashion Week launching this Friday 12th June.
The platform will act as a global meet-up point for both the general public and trade audiences, and will merge menswear and womenswear.
There are three main elements to the digital London Fashion Week experience. There will be a LFW schedule of timed moments, when designers and brands will showcase their latest collections and projects in fresh ways. Highlights include Hussein Chalayan live in conversation with Elise By Olsen, a collection documentary by Marques ‘ Almeida, an Instagram conversation from palmer//harding and a behind-the-scenes film by RIXO.
Alongside the timed schedule, London Fashion Week Digital will include an “Explore” section, a curated content platform that celebrates the richness and creativity of the capital’s fashion industry. Content includes a BFC podcast, daily challenges from luxury styling gamers DREST, VOGUE Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful in conversation with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, a YouTube series hosted by Bruce Pask, Men’s Fashion Director Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus and an initiative from LN-CC designed to support luxury brands to produce sustainably.
Lastly there will be a designer profile hub, with over 100 names activating new and updated profiles in time for June 12th.
As well as rising to the challenge of hosting London Fashion Week digitally, the BFC also released data from Oxford Economics to highlight the importance of the fashion industry to Britain’s economy – directly contributing £35 billion to the UK GDP, a 9.38% increase from 2018. They highlight that 73% of fashion businesses have already experienced order cancellations.
