TikTok x Graduate Fashion Foundation competition launches

Submissions are now open for a design and residency competition brought to you by TikTok and the Graduate Fashion Foundation.

Class of 2020 fashion students are invited to create TikTok’s first-ever range of merchandise that is “fashionable, ethical and distinctly TikTok”, and entries will be judged by GFF Ambassador Henry Holland and Lifetime Patron Zandra Rhodes, Director of Fashion Enter Caroline Ash and TikTok’s Cassandra Russell, Fashion and Retail Brand Partnerships for Europe.

The Graduate Fashion Foundation has 38 member universities, and two students will be selected from each institution. Winners will take part in 5-day creative residencies (in line with Covid-19 government guidelines) where they will have the opportunity to learn about design for manufacturing, grading and realising designs into commercial patterns, production lines and quality control, as well as getting access to mentoring opportunities. Winning designs will be used for gifting to TikTok’s Creator and VIP community, and ultimately a five-piece capsule collection for TikTok’s staff, partners and consumers across Europe will go into production.

The aim of the competition is to boost the prospects of fashion students who have already been adversely affected by Covid-19, particularly those who are graduating this summer. “TikTok are making a hugely positive contribution not only to our graduating students but to our charity that supports the creative talent of tomorrow,” said GFF President Hilary Alexander. “As a brand that understands the importance of the creative journey, we are delighted that they will be allowing our students to experience manufacturing in this way and we know that they will walk away with an experience that will not only be fun, but also put them in a stronger position as they enter the competitive job market.”

The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 24th June with winners to be announced on Friday 26th. Click here to see the full competition brief.
