Lighting brand Anglepoise has unveiled its fifth and latest collaboration with British designer Paul Smith.
Building on Smith’s ‘classic with a twist’ design philosophy, the new line includes three different lights – a standard size Type 75 desk lamp, a slightly smaller mini desk lamp and a floor lamp. Whilst previous Anglepoise + Paul Smith collaborations have focused on Sir Paul’s famous ‘mastery of colour’, Edition Five of the collection adopts a different approach, featuring the Artist Stripe on a pared-back, pure black version of the Type 75 Anglepoise, itself designed by Sir Kenneth Grange.
The collection includes Anglepoise’s Lifetime Guarantee – the brand’s commitment to a world without fast homeware, which sees a guarantee placed on all products used in a domestic setting, to stem the flow of products destined for landfill and remind people that ‘good design goes beyond aesthetics’.
Of the new collection, Adam Wade, Technical Director at Anglepoise said in a press release: “By creating a design that is head-to-toe black – from screws and fittings through to our signature springs – we bring focus to the purity of Kenneth’s Type 75 design. For the first time the Paul Smith Artist Stripe features on an Anglepoise lamp and so we also get an instantly recognisable flourish befitting of Paul Smith’s name. Edition Five is elegant, fun and just a little bit eccentric; a future classic in the making.”
