Things to do on Mother’s Day 2020 in London

Features | | Leave a Comment

Mother’s Day takes place in the U.K. this Sunday (March 22nd), allowing us all the opportunity to celebrate our Mums, and show appreciation to those in our lives who have helped raise us.

However, coming up with new and unique ways to say ’thank you’ to your special someone year upon year can be quite tricky, and while a handed written card, a beautiful bouquet of flowers or a deliciously decadent box of chocolates may have been your go to Mother’s Day gift of choice in the past, why not think outside of the box, and do something a little different for, and with, your loved ones this year?

As always, there is so much to do and see in this great city of ours, as establishments and organisations all over town pull out all of the stops to make Mothering Sunday 2020 even more special than ever!

Check out our guide of 5 things to do in London this Mothers Day.

Afternoon Tea

It is often said that no other city in the world provides a more resplendent fine dining, afternoon tea experience than the great metropolis of London.

With the option of quite literally 100’s of venues across the capital to chose from – from quaint traditional tearooms like The English Rose and Candella to 5-star luxury hotels The Ritz and Claridge’s, fashion house cafes like Thomas’s by Burberry and Marchesi 1824 by Prada to restaurants and eateries located high in the sky – you will be sure to find an appropriate venue to suit your tastes, and treat your loving Mother to a spot of tea and cake this coming weekend.

Rivoli ‘Pop Up’ Cinema

Enjoy a fun, festive, quirky cinema experience at one of London’s last remaining, intact 1950s style ballrooms!

Having first opened in July 1913, the Rivoli Ballroom, with it’s thick velvet curtains, stunning vaulted ceiling and sprung Maple Dance floor, now hosts a pop up cinema, typically over three nights, each month.

This Mothers Day week, Crofton Park Pictures will screen a selection of ‘Cult Classics’ on Thursday March 19th and Friday March 20th – doors open at 8pm with the films beginning at 8:30pm sharp. Cinema sweet and savoury snacks including hot dogs, popcorn and ice cream will all be on sale.

Mother’s Day River Cruise

Take in some of London’s most iconic sites from a whole new and unique perspective on an afternoon, or evening river city cruise. Set sail down the River Thames and appreciate the spectacular panoramic views on offer, whilst enjoying a spot of brunch, lunch or dinner!

Options of pick up locations, fine dining and entertainment are vast and varied, with many companies now offering a diverse range of package experiences to suit you and your families needs.

City Gardens Walking Tour

Embark on a tour of some of London’s more unusual and quirky hidden parks and gardens with Footprints of London – a company co-operatively owned by their group of tour guides, all passionate about showcasing the best walks in and around the capital.

Meet at Barbican Underground Station at 11am on Mothering Sunday, before visiting a selection of the cities most interesting and novel green spaces, as well as a recently developed garden site, all the while learning about how they came into existence and why they play such an important part within our society.
