Burberry is to partner with director and choreographer Wayne McGregor to create the costumes for his latest work with The Royal Ballet.
Set to premiere Friday, June 9th at the Royal Opera House in London, artists and dancers in the production will wear pieces designed by the British fashion house’s Chief Creative Officer Daniel Lee.
Whilst little is known about the yet-to-be-named show, the Royal Ballet have confirmed the performance will be presented in one-act, and set to music by Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir. The stage set has been designed by the late Cuban-born American minimalist artist Carmen Herrera, who died aged 106 in 2022.
McGregor, Resident Choreographer at The Royal Ballet, commented “Daniel Lee, an artist with unbridled imagination, is creating work of innovation, motion, and piercing beauty. And with his exceptional passion for all forms of dance, he felt like a natural ally. Together, with the Burberry team, we are working on something truly special.”
With Lee adding: “It is such a pleasure, and of course an honour, to collaborate on this extraordinary project with so remarkable a team. It’s always been a dream to create costumes for dance which is such a passion of mine.”
