The SAVE OUR SALONS campaign is supporting UK salon owners and encouraging them to contact their local MP to petition for a reduction in VAT from 20% to 5%.
This VAT reduction would mean that salons could add £12 to takings for every £100 of revenue.
Businesses in the hospitality sector have already had their VAT rates slashed to 5%, but hair and beauty salons are still one of the highest taxed industries with around one third of all revenue being charged as tax.
At the current moment, thousands of salons across the UK are at risk of collapse due to significant loss of business and increased expenses for PPE and social distancing measures since the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
By the end of March 2021, the hairdressing and beauty sector will have been closed for 240 days and yet has received no financial support such as that given to businesses in the arts, sports, leisure, or hospitality.
