7 women’s fashion trends you need to know about for 2023

As it turns out, the ‘new year, new me’ approach fits with a whole lot more than just our personal goals.

Whether it’s big companies setting their targets, or global industries making way for new shifts, the New Year brings with it a fresh perspective, and the perfect excuse to go ahead and do something different.

The fashion industry is all about taking an opportunity to shake things up a bit. And so true to form, this year we’re excited to see some bold new trends take to the centre stage. Think gothic lace, asymmetric angles and shimmering silver – we can’t wait to see what 2023 has in store for women’s fashion.

So, we’ve listed the top 7 women’s fashion trends that (we reckon) are set to make waves in ‘23.

1. Lace

If there’s one material that’s been dominating the latest runways, it’s lace.

But, rather than the girlish glamour that we’re used to, lace is making a comeback with a bit of a reinvention.

We’re seeing lace used in long and elegant maxi dresses, but artfully elevated. This includes being adorned with clever cutwork, taking inspiration from luxury lingerie, and (of course, with Wednesday still commanding the fashion world) unashamedly gothic designs.

2. Gothic

Ironically, this comes hand in hand with the rising lace trend. Although Wednesday hit our screens in ‘22, her fashion influence is set to continue long into 2023.

According to this year’s predictions, her gothic influence will span everything from new uses of black lace and organza, to classic gothic iconography (think tombstones and crosses) being featured in prints and embellishments.

3. Denim

Obviously, jeans are at no risk of losing their ‘staple’ status. But, what we’re really excited about is seeing denim be used to create asymmetric angles and stiff, artistic shapes.

These include everything from rogue new jean cuts to fitted military-style tops – think the Givenchy bra worn by Bella Hadid, and you get the gist.

Trust us, denim is more versatile than you’d think. And we can’t wait to see what it brings to the table.

4. Metallic silver fabrics

After a year dominated by nudes and monochrome, fashion is clearly ready for some fun.

One of the trends that we’re most excited to see in 2023 is shimmering metallic fabrics, which look like liquid silver.

These fabrics lend themselves perfectly to draping and flowing designs. They’re a statement piece, but with just the right degree of elegance. And right now, we can’t get enough of the artistic ways in which the big fashion houses are experimenting with silver.

5. Blazers

And now, for an altogether different kind of glam. Just towards the end of 2022, we saw blazers and blazer dresses start their popularity surge. And this is certainly showing no signs of waning.

Particularly in the houses of Valentino and Chanel, oversized blazers are all the rage. These create a much more slouchy, laid-back vibe than their usual sharply-cut counterparts, while achieving the same chic effect.

We’re also intrigued to see how the blazer dress trend develops into 2023. Right now, Victoria Beckham’s line of mini dresses-meet-blazers is firmly cementing the style in this year’s fashion trends.

6. Cargo and utility

Remember when the colour khaki was all the rage? Well, it’s back with a vengeance. In fact, so is the whole utility trend.

We’re seeing endless reinventions of utility and cargo getups, which take the essence of cargo ‘fits and blend them with glamour.

Think classic cargo pants made with sheer fabrics, experiments with boilersuits, and stiff cargo shorts, cut into playful pleats and super-short angles.

7. Angles and cut-outs

We’ve already mentioned this trend a few times above, so you know it’s going to be a big one.

Across the board – covering all materials and clothing pieces – we’re going to see a much bolder approach to angling.

This includes asymmetric hems, cleverly designed cut-outs, sharp edges – you get the vibe. It’s an approach that’s at once both playful and sexy, and we’re absolutely here for it.
