Socks might not be the first thing you think of when you think of Leicester, but it turns out the humble sock has quite a history in the East Midlands city. Last week we visited the headquarters of premium sock purveyor Pantherella to find out more. Whilst we were there we caught up with Pantherella CEO Justin Hall, for the latest in our ‘My London’ series.
Favourite neighbourhood:
Islington – I love the vibe in north London and think it’s great that there is so much to do in one area. I love to support the independent café’s and boutiques in lively Upper Street – there’s a lot going on!
Favourite place for brunch:
Café Fratelli on Wigmore Street as it’s near our London showroom and is very convenient. The variety of food and drinks are exceptional and the prices good – Certainly worth a visit
Best coffee in London: Allans Patisserie, Duke Street – It’s organic and the coffee is delicious, one of the best in London
Favourite gallery or museum:
The Science Museum – I am definitely a techie at heart! I studied engineering at university so it reminds me of being back in that life again. I can’t wait until my kids are old enough to be interested in visiting the museum with me
Favourite building:
Farmiloe Building – we showed at Best of Britannia there last year and it has this really great old, factory feel that is reminiscent of the old-time fashion and garment industry in London – something which is slowly disappearing. I heard they’re renovating it this year so it was great to see it in its original state before it disappears!
Favourite place to shop:
Liberty London as they offer great contemporary brands and Pantherella have an amazing selection of socks there. I like that the department store offers everything under one roof and there is a great feel of ‘heritage brands’. The food in the café is also really good
Favourite place to find inspiration:
Primrose Hill – it has the best view of London and is great for people watching once you get to the top.
Best London destination for a date:
London Zoo – this is a really fun place to go on a first date as it’s so interactive. I went here on a date with my now wife so it holds some great memories
Favourite Park: Regents Park leading up to Primrose Hill. It’s such a scenic route and is the right distance for a lunch time run as you can do it within half an hour.
Favourite food market:
Borough Market – the Borough Cheese Company is my weakness as I am a sucker for cheese. They have a huge variety and one of the best selections in London
Your sanctuary in the city:
Hampstead Heath leading up to Kenwood House. I love walking by the lake and am at my most peaceful state whenever I’m here
What inspires you?
The technical challenge of working with Natural Fibres as we do with Pantherella to create desirable luxury fashion. It inspires me to keep the collection moving and keep introducing new fabrics and styles to the collection.

Apart from our new Cotton Linen socks, I am loving my new Bellroy wallet, and Tusting Marston briefcase
