Oliver grew up near Marlow but spent many years living abroad in Paris and Stockholm. Having studied at the Oxford College of Marketing he wet his toes in International Marketing at Oxford University before moving into media in Sweden.
Passionate about watches, starting a watch brand had always been an aspiration. Having met Gordon, his business partner, in 2015, and encouragement from their friends and family, they went on the create Marloe Watch Company.
We caught up with Oliver for the latest in our ‘My London’ interview series.
Favourite neighbourhood:
Marylebone for sure. Ever since getting the train into London on the Chiltern line and arriving in Marylebone station I was smitten. Then I found Daunt Books and my love was cemented.
Favourite place for brunch:
Just round the corner from Daunt Books is Monocle on Chiltern Street, you’ll never look back after trying their Taco Rice.
Best coffee in London:
Origin Coffee for sure, no one makes an espresso like Origin – they have a couple of places in London but I love the Southwark cafe.
Favourite gallery or museum:
I’m a big fan of the Natural History Museum, especially their Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, I wouldn’t miss that. I’ve been going to the NHM since I was young child and have such fond memories of it.
Tell us a secret:
Earlier this morning I signed off the final design of a Special Edition Haskell we’re making – there will only be 100 of them ever made, and no one else knows about it!
Favourite place to shop:
Does Daunt Books count!? Although I would also have to mention Boxpark in Shoreditch – probably a bit of a standard response but it’s such a great place to see new, small, up and coming brands and how they merchandising creativity – I usually learn a thing or two.
Favourite place to find inspiration:
Taking a stroll around Regent’s Park usually does it – there’s nothing like some fresh air open space to let your imagination run wild.
Best London destination for a date:
I would have to say whatever the Heddon Street Kitchen used to be called, as that’s where my wife and I went on our first date and it seemed to go pretty well!
Favourite park:
Regent’s Park for sure, mainly because my father used to take me there and I have incredibly fond memories of chasing frisbees and playing catch, not to mention the fabulous ZSL Zoo.
Favourite food market:
Without a doubt Maltby Street Market in Bermondsey, I could eat there for the rest of my life and never get bored. Try the cheese truck, you will not regret it!
Your sanctuary in the city:
Daunt Books! Sorry!
What inspires you?
Creativity, design, photography, the great outdoors – if we could have an outdoor office I would. But nothing comes close to passion – seeing someone genuinely passionate about something is so powerful, it’s why I started Marloe.
This season I’m loving:
The crazy cool creative clothes that so many people are making for babies – I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun shopping for my (nearly) 1-year old boy, the spring look is ridiculously cute!
