Going bald is no longer an accepted part of growing older for many men. Hair restoration surgery has become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the UK. There’s no doubt that the number of celebrities who have had a hair transplant and come out with a great result is at least part of this rise in popularity.
It’s no longer all about the latest celebrity haircut or fashion choice. Gossip magazines are now discussing the latest celebrity hair transplant and comparing before and after photos.
So which celebrities have had a hair transplant?
1. Wayne Rooney
Manchester United player Wayne Rooney was one of the first British celebrities to popularise hair transplants after having his procedure way back in 2011.
The football star was honest about his hair transplant from the start, tweeting the fact that he was “delighted with the result” to his followers and confirming that he had the procedure at Harley Street Hair Clinic.
Rooney had a second “top-up” transplant in 2013 but has suffered further hair loss in the years since. He explained in his biography that he suffered from aggressive male pattern baldness and started losing hair in his teens.
His father is almost completely bald on the top of his head and having a hair transplant has definitely delayed him ending up the same way. Although it’s likely that Rooney’s hair will continue to thin dues to his genetics, modern hair transplants and cosmetic procedures can keep him looking young for longer.
2. Jake Quickenden
X Factor star Jake Quickenden was also transparent about his hair restoration procedure, down to the amount he spent on the transplant.
Jake told the Sun newspaper that he was “terrified [he’d] look like Phil Mitchell” and had started buying sprays for his scalp to make it look darker as well as spending hundreds on Regaine treatments.
The star eventually had a £5,000 hair transplant in 2017 at the KSL Hair Clinic in Glasgow. He later uploaded several photos documenting his recovery and hairline regrowth on his Instagram account.
3. Louis Walsh
X-Factor judge Louis Walsh found himself the butt of jokes from co-judge Simon Cowell when his hair started thinning on top.
As his TV career means there’s no hiding from bright lights and cameras, Louis treated himself to a £30,000 hair transplant at Hair Restoration Blackrock in Dublin.
Louis said he’d decided on a hair transplant after seeing the great results of James Nesbitt’s hair restoration procedures. He compared undergoing the surgery as being similar to “going to the doctor and getting something done for your heart before it goes.”
4. Calum Best
Model and reality start Calum Best admitted to having three hair transplants. The most recent was prior to his entry to the Big Brother house to ensure he looked his best on our screens.
Best said he thought he looked five years younger after having the transplants and said he’d been losing his hair since his early 20s, adding “we don’t have to follow nature’s plan.”
Calum had all his procedures at the Crown Clinic in Manchester, the same clinic as chosen by other TV stars Chris Steed, Martin Roberts, and Christian Jessen. He’s stated he’s willing to undergo a fourth procedure if his hair continues to thin.
5. Jack P. Shepherd
Coronation Street actor Jack P. Shepherd also had a hair transplant at the Crown Hair clinic after losing hair due to stress.
The actor had the procedure just before the show’s Christmas filming break, and the surgeon shaved only a small area for donor follicles so that viewers would not notice a dramatic difference in his appearance.
Jack, who called hair transplants “the modern day version of the boob job”, said that these days it had become totally normal for men to have the procedure.
6. James Nesbitt
Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt had two hair transplants at the same Dublin hair restoration clinic as Louis Walsh. He was so pleased with the results that he even appeared in a promotional video for the clinic.
He later said that after years of hair loss, the transplants has improved his confidence, boosted his career, and even changed his life.
The star also said he was using the medication Minoxidil to help to thicken his remaining hair and prevent further hair loss.
7. Joe Swash
Eastenders actor Joe Swash didn’t come clean about his first hair transplant until years later, revealing that he wanted to look his best because he was on TV. After seeing other celebrities being open about their hair transplant procedures, he decided to speak candidly about his experiences.
The star had his most recent FUE transplant at KSL clinic in 2018, and said he felt so comfortable during the procedure, he fell asleep.
He urged others who are worried about losing their hair to go for a consultation and said he had “no regrets” about the procedures he’d had.
8. George Sampson
Britain’s Got Talent star and street dancer George Sampson was only 23 when he had a hair transplant in 2017. The young star revealed that he was suffering from thinning hair due to a combination of genetics, alopecia, and spinning on his head in dance moves.
He eventually decided to go for a transplant both to boost his confidence and for fear that his thinning hair would affect his future career. George paid £9,000 to have the procedure at Juvida clinic in Skipton.
9. Brian McFadden
Formed Westlife singer and Dancing on Ice star Brian McFadden posted a series of photos and a video on social media documenting his hair transplant procedure. The surgery was performed by one of his old school friends who’d opened a hair loss clinic.
Blaming his thinning hairline on lifestyle and “the general stresses we go through in life”, McFadden admitted he’d become very self-conscious about his hair and decided to do something about it.
10. Jason Gardiner
Dancing on Ice Star Jason Gardiner splashed out £30,000 on a hair transplant in 2016 after spending years hiding his thinning hair under hats.
He was so thrilled with the results that he live broadcast himself having a second procedure to raise awareness and popularize the procedure.
