Iconic British leather goods company Mulberry is launching a series of capsule collections to celebrate its 50th anniversary, working with innovative, young designers to create limited-edition accessories which will be dropping throughout the year.
Focusing on luxury British craftsmanship and sustainably manufactured pieces throughout, Mulberry Editions is working with three esteemed young designers who have each “re-imagined an existing Mulberry Silhouette.” In keeping with Mulberry’s pledge to be a global leader in sustainably crafted goods, each collection has “an emphasis on low impact manufacturing, innovative sourcing and product circularity,” explains the British heritage brand.
Launching throughout 2021, each designer has utilised their own individual and distinct “design ethos” alongside Mulberry’s timeless silhouettes to create three contemporary and joyful capsule collections. Designers Priya Ahluwalia, Richard Malone and Nicholas Daley have drawn upon an array of different inspirations and cultural touchpoints, resulting in innovative and diverse takes on the classic Mulberry silhouettes.
Priya Ahluwalia’s Mulberry collection is the first to launch in June 2021, and takes inspiration from her “dual Indian-Nigerian heritage and London roots.” Her focus is on “the potential of vintage and surplus clothing by giving existing materials new life through textile techniques,” making her a natural fit for Mulberry and its dedication to sustainability.
Similarly, London-based Richard Malone (collection dropping September 2021) “is stringently committed to sustainability, community, local production and the development of a less harmful fashion business model, releasing his collections in limited numbers” – making him an obvious collaborator for Mulberry.
Nicholas Daley is Mulberry’s third designer to drop an Editions collaboration this year, and his collection drops in December 2021. Graduating in 2013 from the renowned Central Saint Martins, Daley is an incredibly exciting designer who “widely questions and reflects the notion of multiculturalism within the British identity, placing great significance on craftsmanship” – another of Mulberry’s core values.
Each designer’s dedication to sustainably sourced, contemporary design is a natural progression for Mulberry and will eloquently celebrate the heritage brand’s 50th birthday with a marriage of fresh silhouettes and mindfully sourced materials.
