ASSOS of Switzerland Turns Fifty – and the A50 Anniversary Drop Is Worth Every Year

ASSOS of Switzerland marks fifty years of Swiss Speed Engineering with a limited-edition collection that refuses to play it safe.

In 1976, Swiss designer Toni Maier looked at professional cyclists dressed in wool and leather and decided the sport had it all wrong. So he scrapped tradition entirely. Drawing on wind-tunnel data and alpine skiing innovation, Maier founded ASSOS of Switzerland — and permanently changed what riders wear. Now, fifty years on, one of cycling’s most influential brands is marking its golden jubilee with the A50 Anniversary Drop: a limited-edition release that is every bit as disruptive as its origin story.

Furthermore, this isn’t simply a commemorative piece. The A50 Drop builds on ASSOS’s flagship EQUIPE R racing platform and introduces a design language the brand calls Techno-Anarchy — Swiss precision meets raw, avant-garde aesthetic. In short, it’s performance kit that looks like it belongs in a gallery as much as on a start line.

The Design: Heritage Rebuilt for 2026

The A50 jersey takes its visual DNA directly from Daniel Gisiger — the former Swiss professional road and track cyclist who became one of the sport’s most respected technical coaches. Consequently, the graphics carry genuine weight. References to classic team heritages Cilo and Lejeune run through the panels, but ASSOS has torn them apart and rebuilt them for today. Raw poetic typography — “Spinning maps in headlights,” “Beyond the rise, into the wind” — cuts across the panels. The result sits closer to contemporary art than traditional sportswear.

Moreover, Techno-Anarchy marks a deliberate rejection of what anniversary collections usually do. Instead of looking backward, ASSOS has used its own fifty-year legacy as raw material for something that feels genuinely new.

The Technical Spec: What Makes ASSOS EQUIPE R Worth It

ASSOS builds the EQUIPE/DYORA R S11 A50 collection for racing and fast riding in temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. Additionally, every technical decision traces back to one goal: making you faster for longer.

Jersey highlights:

  • Aircell fabric (main body): Circular-knit at just 110g/m², this is one of the lightest jersey textiles ASSOS has ever produced outside its RSR and Houdini lines. It offers four-way asymmetrical stretch, strong breathability, and fast moisture dispersal.
  • Push Pull fabric (rear panels): At 180g/m², the fine-gauge rear construction adds structural density. As a result, pockets stay stable under load — even at race pace.
  • Overall weight: Just 133g in a size M, thanks to bonded construction and a racing fit that holds sleeves above the elbow without banding.
  • Triple Ramp Pockets: Flexible internal fabric panels act as lids, so nutrition and accessories stay secure during hard efforts.

Bib shorts highlights:

  • Type.911 fabric: An ultra-fine 40-gauge warp knit that combines high compression with long-term abrasion resistance.
  • X-Frame technology: ASSOS’s patented bib structure delivers targeted support without pressure points.
  • EQUIPE R S11 insert: A Mono shock-absorb damping system provides sustained comfort across long efforts.
  • Skin Grip Finish: A seamless raw-cut leg gripper anchors the shorts in place without elastic constriction.

In comparison to previous ASSOS anniversary releases, the A50 collection represents the most technically advanced kit the brand has tied to a milestone moment. It doesn’t ask you to choose between performance and heritage. Instead, it delivers both.

About ASSOS of Switzerland

Toni Maier-Moussa founded ASSOS of Switzerland in Stabio in 1976. Crucially, the brand didn’t just enter the cycling apparel market — it created a new category within it. ASSOS produced the world’s first Lycra cycling shorts and, in doing so, made wool and leather obsolete at the professional level.

Today, ASSOS sells globally through its own channels and a network of specialist retailers. Athletes wearing ASSOS kit have taken gold medals at Olympic Games and UCI World Championships. Beyond performance, the brand also backs its products with a two-year manufacturing warranty and a 30-day crash replacement policy. Frequently Asked Questions About the ASSOS A50 Anniversary Drop

What is the ASSOS A50 Anniversary Drop?

ASSOS released the A50 as a limited-edition collection to mark fifty years in business since 1976. The brand builds it on the flagship EQUIPE R racing platform and adds bespoke anniversary graphics inspired by Swiss cycling heritage — specifically the career of former professional cyclist Daniel Gisiger.

What does Techno-Anarchy mean?

Techno-Anarchy describes the design philosophy ASSOS developed specifically for the A50. Rather than producing a traditional anniversary kit, the brand deliberately collided its Swiss engineering precision with raw, avant-garde visual language. Classic team references — Cilo, Lejeune — appear throughout. However, ASSOS fractures and rebuilds them rather than simply reproducing them.

Does the A50 perform at race level, or is it a collector’s piece?

It does both. ASSOS builds the A50 to full EQUIPE R race specification — Aircell jersey fabric, Type.911 bib shorts, and the S11 chamois insert. Therefore, the anniversary context adds no compromise to the performance credentials.

What temperature range suits the A50 kit?

ASSOS optimises the A50 for ambient temperatures between 15°C and 30°C. As a result, it works best for spring and summer racing. It isn’t a thermal or transitional piece — it’s built specifically for fast riding in warm conditions.

How limited is the drop?

ASSOS confirms the A50 as a limited-edition release only. The brand won’t add it permanently to the range, so stock is finite. Check live availability at ASSOS.

What warranty does ASSOS offer on the A50?

ASSOS covers all A50 products with a two-year manufacturing warranty. Additionally, the brand offers free repairs or replacements within 30 days of purchase for crash-damaged kit.

Where can UK readers buy the ASSOS A50 Anniversary Drop?

UK readers can buy directly from assos.com/gb, with free domestic returns within 28 days. Selected specialist cycling retailers also carry the collection from June 2026.
