Womenswear designer Anna Mason tapped into the collective conscious of the nation during London Fashion Week last month, with the unveiling of her Spring Summer 2022 collection.
Based upon on the concept of ‘The Garden of Freedom’, and inspired by Claude Monet’s 1900 painting, ‘Le jardin de l’artiste a Giverny’ (‘The Artist’s Garden at Giverny’), Anna commissioned London-based, RCA-trained painter Jonathan Schofield to create a portrait that she could use as a print. The face we see in the prints of Jonathan’s painting then became overall the muse for the collection.
Themes such as artistry are present throughout the SS22 collection, as painterly prints and marks are combined with silhouettes inspired by artists’ smocks. Similarly, Anna’s liberal use of linens can be traced back to the artist’s use of raw, natural linen as a canvas to paint on.
Freedom, the thing we have longed for throughout the pandemic, as enjoyed in the free space, natural beauty, and renewal of the summer garden.
Reflecting Mason’s belief that womenswear should accommodate and be adaptable to meet the needs of modern women, the SS22 line offers authentic day-to-day dressing solutions for the here-and-now, that become ‘go to’ wardrobe favourites.
