Fashion designer Kim Jones today unveils his first comprehensive capsule collection of sneakers and unisex clothing, designed in association with shoe brand Converse.
By taking his time to explore and understand the American company’s DNA and heritage, Jones produces a contemporary yet nostalgic line of streetwear-inspired pieces that pay homage to some of Converse’s most loved and iconic styles.
Highlights in the collection include Kim’s update of the Chuck 70 sneaker, giving it ’90s-inspired makeover in two classic colour, whilst reinforcing foot stability and enhancing the grip to increase traction whilst out and about.
As for the clothing capsule, Jones combines elements of Americana, streetwear and sportswear, but with a fresh, modern-day twist that includes T-shirts, jackets, crewnecks and cargo pants.
“I looked at the Japanese designers readapting American sportswear – recreating that fifties and sixties look. Obviously, Converse was the key shoe within all that stuff. Now, I’m just putting it all together in a different way,” Jones states in a press release accompanying the launch of the collection.
“The design approach for the shoe was very straightforward – taking a classic shoe and then almost encasing it in something to protect it.”
